DIY: The Perfect Nutritional Smoothie

We've all heard the saying, eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away. However, most people can't find the time or patience to sit there and eat an apple.

Hence why smoothies, juicing, and throwing fruits in water is at an all time high. Fitness has taken over, and not many people want to be fat, or even feel like they are tipping over the average size for their age and height. Well, welcome to the new age of body wraps, waist cinchers, fat burning pills, and all that good stuff. Oh and of course the countless gym gurus and #Gymlife selfies add to the motivation to take better care of ourselves.

For those of us who want to start off with the basics, or are just lost on how to get the best out of a great tasting smoothie (or juicing), then follow these steps for a nutritional boost in your immune system --- and day!

1. CHOOSE YOUR GREENS - This will give your smoothie a solid nutritional boost and keep you going throughout the day.

KALE
SPINACH
SWISS CHARD
COLLARD GREENS
BEET GREENS

2. CHOOSE YOUR FRUIT - This is where the flavor comes from, as well as a blast of antioxidants.

APPLE
PEACH
BANANAS
ANY BERRIES (fresh or frozen)
MELON
MANGO
KIWI
PINEAPPLE
PAPAYA

3. CHOOSE YOUR BASE - This makes the smoothie smoother (ha!) so it is easier to consume and blend.

ANY MILK
PLAIN YOGURT
GREEN TEA
COCONUT WATER
FILTERED WATER
or any nutritional liquid source like Ensure, etc.

4. (Optional) ADD A SUPPLEMENT - Vitamin capsules can be opened and put into smoothies for faster absorption into your body, and adds nutritional value.

One SCOOP of any Protein Powder
Opened Vitamin capsules
FLAXSEED
CHIA SEEDS
RAW MACA
RAW CACAO

Toss all of these chosen ingredients in a blender, hit the ON switch and THAT'S IT! Now go make the best smoothie you've ever had!

Note: Each step should be 1/3 of the whole smoothie. Add ice for a cooler refreshing drink. For a boost of sweetness you can add: dates, stevia, maple syrup, honey, raw agave, or sugar. Enjoy!
