Dermarollers :: No Pain No Gain

They say no pain no gain, right? Well that is surely the case with Dermarollers because the only way they can work is by puncturing the top layer of your skin with the tiny micro-needles embedded in the hand held device. Fun, right?

There are many reasons to use a dermaroller, such as:

  • Fading Stretch Marks
  • Acne Scar Removal
  • Anti-Aging (Wrinkles)
  • Hair Restoration (Traction alopecia/thin edges)
  • Cellulite Reduction
Dermarollers work by increasing the collagen production and tricking your skin into believing it needs to repair itself. Sort of like creating a wound so your body goes into restore mode and naturally begins to heal itself.
Most of our skin issues come from a lack of elasticity in the skin which causes wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks, scars, and uneven skin tone. The tiny needles go deep into your skin and open up your pores (without damaging it) so the products you use can seep into your epidermal layer. If you want your hydrating cream, serum, or hair loss treatment to work better, then this is the best tool to use to help products penetrate deeper into your skin. This process is called: Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

The best way to use a dermaroller is by washing it thoroughly with antibacterial soap, and a clean toothbrush or clarasonic brush. After rinsing, dry with a clean paper towel and spray or dip it in alcohol to clean off any germs on the device. When ready, roll the device up and down slowly with pressure (view video below). Some people are sensitive to pain so go at your own pace, while cleaning off any blood that may seep out your pores. I have been using a .5mm dermaroller for 2 months now and I have never bleed, so everyone is different. I use it on areas of my scalp that are thin or weak due to the wear and tear of weaves. This device is great for thin edges as well, by following the steps above on your hairline, then applying castor oil or a hair growth oil to your scalp then massaging it in for about 3-5 mins. You can use this device as often as needed, but most people use it once a week.

Dermarollers are safe to use at home, and have similar results to laser treatments and chemical peels for only a small fraction of the price. The needles come in different sizes and depends greatly on the person's comfort levels. The results also depend on the person using it, the consistency of use, and the areas they are using it on. Your skin takes 30-40 days to renew itself, so using this device speeds up that process, but rolling should not be overdone. You can use this device on pretty much any area of your body: arms, legs, hands, scalp, stomach, thighs, face, neck, and any where you wish to repair.  Always wash your device thoroughly after use and let it air dry on a clean towel before placing it back into the clean storage case. Never share your dermaroller with anyone else, and do not use on children.

Tip:Be sure to start off with a smaller needle size so you can get used to a dermaroller, then increase the needle as necessary. Take before pictures to keep up with your progress. Please do not use over open wounds or if you are pregnant. To purchase: http://www.derma-rollers.com/ or amazon.
